Special Session: Positioning Kongish in Hong Kong English: A case study of Kongish Daily

About the Speakers
​
NICK WONG is reading for a PhD in Applied Linguistics at University of Lancaster, and is an Instructor in the Center for Language Education. A self-appointed Ah 4, he is responsible for overseeing daily operations and liaising with external parties for the Daily.
ALFRED TSANG earned his MPhil in English and Applied Linguistics from University of Cambridge, and is an Instructor in the Center for Language Education. A Chi-Eng Choi Tsi, he writes editorials and advises on linguistic and educational matters for the Daily.
PEDRO LOK is beginning his PhD studies in the School of English under Dr Lisa Lim’s supervision. With previous MA training in Applied English Linguistics from Chinese University of Hong Kong, Pedro lectures on English at Tung Wah College. Known as Kongish X-Man, he rewrites Canton pop lyrics in both Chinese and Kongish, and directs a music channel for the Daily.

Dr. Katherine Chen is an assistant professor at the School of English, the University of Hong Kong. She is a sociolinguist and linguistic anthropologist, specializing in language ideologies, language and identities, multilingualism, ethnography and sociolinguistic documentary film. She is co-producer of Multilingual Hong Kong: A Sociolinguistic Case Study of Code-switching, a film which explores issues of bilingualism and prejudice. Her current research includes the language and identity of return migrants in Hong Kong; a study of the multilingual and multicultural Indonesian Chinese diaspora in Asia; and a co-authored project (with Agnes Kang) on gender stereotypes of Hong Kong women.
